Destruction of a Family!
Genesis 19:1-8
* Lot was a typical man who wanted more out of life. But the more he got out of the world, the more the world got in him. Let us look at the backslidden life of Lot and what it cost him.
1. First mistake; Genesis 13: 10,12
A. he pitched his tent toward Sodom
B. Lot looked through the eyes of flesh ( saw it was well watered)
C. maybe he went with the intentions he could change Sodom, but Sodom changed him.
2. Favorite place; 19 vs. 1
A. sat at the gate, this is where things were happening
B. to be seated at the gate meant he was now a town official or mayor
C. favorite place wasn’t the house of God
3. Family values; vs. 8
A. he offered his daughters to the mob
B. no value on the life of his family
4. Fruitless testimony; vs. 14
A. his son-in-laws wouldn’t listen to him, maybe they saw how he lived
B. people wont listen to you when your talk wont line up with your walk
5. Fallback of his wife; vs. 26
A. she was behind him
B. women are the weaker vessel, men are to be spiritual tugboats, to help them along.
C. God made woman out of a rib to be beside her mate
D. what was worth looking back on
6. Folly of his family foundation; vs. 31-36
A. Lot raised his family on Sodom’s guide lines and not God’s holy word
B. how did his daughters know to get him drunk and lay with him
C. people are cautious about letting their kids go to church, but will let any heathen teacher or coach to have them at school
7. Future; vs. 37-38
A. his sin of backsliding followed him the rest of his days
B. you reap what you sow
Conclusion: How is it in your family? Are you the spiritual leader in your home? God ordained the family, so give your family to God.
